Illicit Discharge Information

Illicit discharges are generally any discharge into a storm drain system that is not composed of entirely stormwater. Illicit discharges are a problem because, unlike wastewater which flows to a wastewater treatment plant, stormwater generally flows to waterways without any additional treatment. Common materials illegally dumped into our storm drains and waterways are:

  • Leaves & Grass Clippings, Tree Limbs, & Branches

  • Household Garbage, Medical Waste, Household Hazardous Waste Products such as Cleaners, Paints, Cooking Oil, Motor Oil, and Other Automotive Fluids

  • Construction & Demolition Debris (Drywall, Shingles, Lumber, Bricks, Concrete, Siding)

  • Large Appliances, Abandoned Vehicles, Automobile Parts & Tires; Old or Soiled Furniture
